PLAN COMMISSION MEETING THIS WEEK
The Plan Commission will be meeting this Thursday, January 7, 2021, to continue the Public Hearing held on November 19, 2020, to review the draft Comprehensive Plan. The meeting agenda may be accessed at this link. Responses to public comments made at the November meeting are provided on this document. Please note that plan revisions can still be made in response to the comments and public input received. Updates to the draft Comprehensive Plan will be prepared after the Plan Commission and Village Board each have an opportunity to review and comment on the current version of the plan and make recommendations for final revisions. Review by the Village Board will be scheduled for a later date (TBD).

RESPONSES TO PUBLIC COMMENTS
Thank you to all community members who shared comments at the Public Open House and Public Hearing held on November 19, 2020. Responses to these comments are provided on this document. Plan revisions can still be made in response to the comments and public input received. Updates to the draft Comprehensive Plan will be prepared after the Plan Commission and Village Board each have an opportunity to review and comment on the current version of the plan and make recommendations for final revisions. The Plan Commission’s next meeting is scheduled for January 7, 2021. Review by the Village Board will be scheduled after (date TBD).

The core elements of the Homer Glen Comprehensive Plan are the Subarea Concept Plans, a Framework Plan, and the Future Land Use Plan. Additional plan elements include strategies for housing, retail, transportation, utilities and infrastructure, community facilities, environment, and sustainability.

PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT
The Comprehensive Plan process has been progressing forward over the past several months. In particular, the community feedback received at the Subarea Concepts Design Charrette held in February has played an integral role in laying the groundwork for Subarea Concept Plans, a Framework Plan, and the Future Land Use Plan. In turn, these elements form the foundation for other elements of the Comprehensive Plan, including strategies for housing, retail, transportation, utilities and infrastructure, community facilities, environment, and sustainability.
These plan elements will be ready to review later this fall to gather comments from Village officials, the Steering Committee, and community members. The formal plan review and adoption process is anticipated to wrap up by the end of 2020.

SUBAREA CONCEPTS DESIGN CHARRETTE SUMMARY
The summary of the Subarea Concepts Design Charrette held on February 11, 2020, is now available for public viewing (click this PDF link or visit the Documents page). The charrette enabled community members the opportunity to share ideas about potential development for four key subareas in Homer Glen. Thanks again to all those who participated, as your feedback and ideas will help the Village advance the Comprehensive Plan Update and plan for Homer Glen’s future.

SUCCESSFUL DESIGN CHARRETTE THIS WEEK
Yesterday, community members and Village officials took part in a lively and productive Subarea Concepts Design Charrette to generate potential development ideas for four key subareas in Homer Glen. We thank the 50+ participants who shared their time, knowledge, and insights through a set of interactive activities to plan for the future of Homer Glen. The outcomes from the charrette will play a critical role in advancing the Comprehensive Plan Update.

The next steps in the process will be to develop the draft core elements of Homer Glen’s Comprehensive Plan Update, as listed below. This drafting process will commence through the spring.

SUBAREA CONCEPTS DESIGN CHARRETTE

The Village Board, the Plan Commission, the Community and Economic Development Committee, the Parks & Recreation Committee, and the Environment Committee are invited to participate in this interactive Subarea Concepts Design Charrette to plan for four key subareas of the Village.

This workshop will include interactive mapping activities that will enable participants to visualize their ideas in physical form. The Consultant Team will have different tables to cover each of the four subareas with small groups to provide their development ideas on each subarea. This workshop is a critical component of the Village’s long-range planning activities for the future and will help formulate different development scenarios for key areas around Homer Glen.

The Consultant Team is keeping busy working with Village staff and the project’s Steering Committee to prepare an Existing Conditions and Issues Summary, which will provide a strong foundation of findings, ideas, and issues to address in the Comprehensive Plan Update. This summary document will be made available in the near future.
Community input is always welcome through the Feedback page on this website, the project Twitter account, and the Village’s Facebook page. We are always open to hear your thoughts and ideas as to how you envision the future of Homer Glen.
